ABSTRACT
The article reports that the California Energy Commission will decide in May 2012 whether to award five million U.S. dollars to Mendota Advanced Bioenergy Beet Cooperative and Mendota Energy LLC for the development of a pilot biorefinery plant in Mendota, California. The pilot refinery will produce one million gallons of ethanol derived from the 250 acres of beets. If successful, a full scale plant will be constructed with the capacity to produce 36 million gallons of ethanol a year.
