ABSTRACT
The article presents information that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has filed a petition to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board for acquiring right-of-way and trackage from Norfolk Southern Railway (NSR) Co. NSR will only transfer the line but not the real property and its private property during the transaction. The proposed transaction will be effective by May 31, 2012. The MDOT has assured that it will not conduct any rail operations on the acquired line.
