ABSTRACT
In our dialogic and co-enunciative study of a conversation between a father and his son, we analyze the form their relationship takes in their verbal exchanges. We particularly focus on the enunciative status the speakers attribute to themselves and to each other. The images a father and a son have of each other are partly determined by their status as father and son. The relational mode constructed by those roles is not homogeneous. Indeed, in the extract under study, the diversity of the father's attitudes is quite striking: he gives orders, permissions, soothes, challenges or plays with his son. We show that these various attitudes can be characterized in terms of discrepancies between the two speakers and that in some cases, the discrepancies are leveled out thanks to what we call co-enunciative adjustments.
