ABSTRACT
The article discusses the history of Sabbath School libraries which provided library services to rural Kentucky in a church setting in the nineteenth century. The author comments on the Sabbath School Libraries' relationship to Sunday Schools. He also mentions the perceived benefits of the libraries including helping children develop a habit of reading, occupying the library during otherwise vacant hours, and helping to elevate discourse in the communities.
