ABSTRACT
The author discusses the contributions of Dean Samuel Reynolds Hole in growing and promoting roses. He describes Hole's efforts in promoting rose as the queen of flowers by staging rose shows and writing books about it. The Royal National Rose Society acknowledges Hole's contribution by making the Dean Hole Medal the highest honor given for a rosarian. Hole's recommendations for diggin' and dungin' to grow roses, which the author follows, are described.
