ABSTRACT
Different extracts of Bauhinia tomentosa (Kachnar) were prepared and subsequently evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against three gram-positive viz. Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative bacteria viz. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris and Escherichia coli and two fungi C. albicans, C. Krusel by micro dilution method. Standaridazion of the stem has been done by Pharmacognostical studies. Preliminary phytochemical studies of six extracts shows the presence of carbohydrates and glycosides, alkaloids, tannins, flavanoids, phytosterols, saponins in the aqueous extracts and carbohydrates and glycosides, flavanoids, phytosterols in the alcohol extract.
