The article explores the life and work of the Baltimore, Maryland-based artist Shinique Smith. Particular focus is given to how her sculptural and painterly work incorporates altered and discarded clothing and textiles. Her graduate studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, are also discussed.
