Argues that Iran may cause real problems for the U.S. war with Iraq, either by undermining the military effort itself or by interfering with the post-Saddam political order the U.S. tries to establish. Response from U.S. diplomats and congressional staffers to a query by Iran on whether U.S. President George W. Bush respects the sovereignty of Ayatollah Ali Khomeini's government; Views that U.S. relations with Iran were tenuous prior to the Gulf War; Iraqi opposition groups supported by Iran.
