The article examines the role of internal fixation and elbow arthroplasty in the management of distal humeral fractures. The principles, techniques and advantages and disadvantages of both the treatment approaches are described in detail. It is suggested that future studies should focus on developing less invasive surgical techniques and improved implants and also on minimizing complications such as infection, ectopic bone formation and persistent ulnar neuropathy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the results after double locking plate osteosynthesis (ORIF) and total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) in AO type C fractures of the distal humerus. Introduction: Intramedullary nailing (IMN) is an accepted technique for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. Previous studies published concerns over whether this technique had higher complication rates such as nonunion and technical failures compared to plate osteosynthesis....

Background: Earlier literature on fixation of distal third humeral fractures describes the use of elaborate modification of existing implants, custom-made implants and dual plating. These modifications have the disadvantages of limitations of hardware availability and cost as well as longer...

From 2003 through 2009 we treated 35 patients who suffered from an isolated capitellum humerus fracture whom we treated with osteosynthesis. A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate displaced proximal humeral fractures treated with a non-plate head-preserving fixation and to detect factors predicting functional outcome. Two cases of acute isolated avulsion fracture of the lesser tuberosity of the humerus and their short-term outcome are presented with a review of previously reported cases. Open reduction and internal ixation was performed. Outcomes were excellent, and the patients regained their normal...
