ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the government and political conditions in Latvia. A unicameral legislative body called Saeima is the highest organ of state authority in Latvia. Significant portions of the country's 1922 constitution were reimplemented in the autumn of 1991. A law explicitly guaranteeing equal rights to all nationalities and ethnic groups was passed by the Supreme Council on March 19, 1991.
