ABSTRACT
As a follow up to the official request addressed in February 1995 by the UN to the Romanian government regarding the involvement of Romanian Armed Forces with combat units and staff officers team in UNAVEM III peacekeeping operation, the Parliament approved in March 1995 the deployment in UNAVEM III TOO of a national contingent consisting of 1 Staff Officers Detachment, 1 Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion and 1 Military Field Hospital. The article highlights some operational details regarding the preparatory and the training phase, the deployment of the Romanian contingent, political and military situation in Angola, UNAVEM III organizational chart and the UN mandate, concept of operation and the UNAVEM III Force deployment, staff positions allocated to Romanian staff officers to include their duties and responsibilities, daily life in a military campus to include recreation and welfare in a PKO, contribution of the Romanian contingent to fulfilling the mandate of this mission. The harsh realities from Angola TOO are also underlined, along with the operational environment and unknown difficulties and challenges the Staff Officer Team had to face while performing their tasks and responsibilities.
