Was ist die „Markenidentität" der Soziologie?

Sociology as an academic discipline is marked by an increased internal diversification. Moreover, in recent years results of sociological research are hardly noticed in the general public. Hence, this article discusses basic questions concerning the >brand identity< of Sociology as a discipline based on statements by Norbert Elias, Niklas Luhmann, Jürgen Habermas, Renate Mayntz and Auguste Comte. The investigations lead to the conclusion that sociological research indeed significantly contributes to more adequate and differentiated descriptions in a broad variety of decision-making processes but that the academic discipline currently seems to be unable to convey its sustainable benefits to society.
