ABSTRACT
The article examines the current conditions in war-ravaged Somalia as of February 2012. The country is currently seeing an armed conflict between the Islamist al-Shabab and African Union peacekeepers and Somali troops. It is noted that despite the pullout of al-Shabab from Mogadishu, the struggle for control of the city continues. The bulk of the peacekeeping forces comes from Uganda and Burundi, who now number nearly 10,000.
