ABSTRACT
The article presents news briefs pertaining to accounting in various countries as of December 1998. The International Accounting Standards Committee has issued "Basis for Conclusions: IAS 38, Intangible Assets," and "IAS 22 (revised 1998) Business Combinations." The Malaysian government has announced its plan to introduce a self-assessment system for tax. Singapore plans to amend its company law so as to allow companies to buy back their shares.
