ABSTRACT
The article presents a study which investigates the biodegradation of phenol in contaminated sediment and soil sites in northwestern India. It mentions that several concentrations of nalidixic acid and yeast extract were tested to determine the optimum condition for direct counting of resistant cells. Results indicate bacterial sediment communities demonstrate the capacity to adapt to ambient concentrations of certain pollutants, such as phenol.
