ABSTRACT
A-scan ultrasonography is still widely used for IOL power calculation but it may lead to unexpected postoperative refraction errors due to various reasons. Calculation of IOL power more precisely by an operator independent device is needed in accordance with recent developments in refractive surgery and postoperative visual expectations of the patients. In this review, we tried to evaluate the ultrasonic biometry, error sources in biometry, IOL power calculation formulas, optical biometry and advantages of optical biometry.
