ABSTRACT
The article discusses the growing movement among teachers in charter schools to recognize the advantages of unionizing and of enforcing contracts to ensure that their voices are heard. Cited is a union contract which established job security, salary schedules with steps and teacher committees that contributed to curriculum and professional development decisions. Mentioned is a case in which union members interviewed and hired the school principal and are formulating a teacher evaluation system.
