ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the petrochemical manufacturer Shell Chemicals Ltd.'s plan to use low-cost shale gas to build a world-scale ethylene cracker with integrated derivative units in the Appalachian region of the U.S. Ben van Beurden, Shell executive vice president chemicals, says that they are a chemical engineering company so they will focus on efficient process technology. The units will use ethane from the Marcellus shale gas fields to produce ethylene, a feedstock for polyethylene.
