The article discusses the increasing use of coal gasification, a process that yields synthesis gas (syngas) for use in fuelling diverse facilities. India-based Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. is building a coal gasification plant to obtain syngas for producing pig iron. The core components of the gasification process are the gasifiers in which coal is converted to syngas by partial oxidation with steam and oxygen.
