It has been just over one year since the Streamlined Sales Tax Project was introduced. The project was announced formally on March 8, 2000, as a response to the growing number of requests by the business community for states to overhaul their sales and use tax laws, along with the states' concern about the presumed lost revenue due to expanding Internet sales. The mission of the project is to "simplify and modernize sales and use tax administration.
