ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a study, which examines the prevalence of heterosexual unprotected anal intercourse among men and women who drink at informal alcohol serving establishments called shebeens, in South Africa. The findings show that anal intercourse plays an important role in HIV infections, in a small minority of South Africans, who patronize shebeens.
