ABSTRACT
This article examines the use of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and the N-terminal fragment of proBNP (NT-proBNP) in the diagnosis of heart failure. It references a study T. Nikishima et al. which found that most endogenous NT-proBNP found in the circulation is glycosylated. It also discusses the discovery of BNP in porcine brain and identifies the formation of a 134 amino acid precursor peptide following the translation of BNP gene results.
