The article discusses the use of straight-through claim processing by insurers to reduce unnecessary costs in the handling of insurance claims. The author suggests that to lower operating costs, companies must first improve processes and then capture the efficiencies achieved within day-to-day operations. Straight-through claim processing starts with a Web application that lets a customer enter loss information and allows claimants to upload receipts, police reports, and other required proofs.
