ABSTRACT
The article discusses the growth of the reinsurance industry in China over the past decade and the role of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) in putting protocols in place to maintain orderly and stable growth to the benefit of the industry as a whole. CIRC played the role of a consumer advocate in the early years of its establishment. In 2006, CIRC designed a preliminary regulatory framework consisting of three pillars, solvency, corporate governance and market behaviour.
