ABSTRACT
The article analyses the penalties and warnings imposed on insurers by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) of India. IRDA has introduced a system of disclosure of information regarding penalties and warnings to the general public on its website. During January-July 2010, IRDA has warned and penalised eight insurance companies including LIC of India. Birla Life Insurance Co. and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance were issued show cause notices by IRDA.
