ABSTRACT
Introduction: Although the beneficial effects of physical exercise (PF) are well documented, in some cases exercise can potentiate the chance of acute cardiovascular events. Objective: To analyze the cardiovascular risk of practitioners in a center of supervised exercise. Methods: Sample was composed of 100 individuals. Data collection was performed by anthropometric measurements and evaluation of risk factors, signs or symptoms and history of cardiovascular disease. Results: Obesity was the most prevalent risk factors (39%). Twenty-four percent of the subjects were classified as "high risk" and 16% as "moderate risk". More than 60% of individuals classified as high risk did not undergo an ergometric test. Conclusion: Several practitioners in the center of supervised exercise present high cardiovascular risk, which highlight the need of a cardiovascular screening before training program.
