THE NURSING IN DIE PROCESS AND DEATH IN THE INTENSIVE CARE: STUDY OF LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Objective: to analyze, in articles published in Portuguese and Spanish, such as nursing experiences the die process and death in the Intensive Care Unit (UCI). Method: exploratory, bibliographic and qualitative research, that search answer the following question: such as nursing experiences the die process and death in the Intensive Care Unit (UCI)? The data collection during 2010 July occurred in data bases: Literature in the Health Sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean (Lilacs), National Library of Medicine (Medline), Literature of Caribbean in Health Sciences (MedCaribe), Scientific Eletronic Library On line (Scielo), Scientific Commons, Virtual Health Library - Psicology of Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC), Banco de Dados de Enfermagem (Bedenf) and others. The descriptors used were: nursing, death, die, Intensive Care Unit and Feelings. As criteria of inclusion: abstract in Portuguese and Spanish about object of research, published from 2001 to 2010. Results: analytical category: experiences and subsidies for nursing in Intensive Care Unit related to care of patient in the dying process and death. This category shows feelings of nursing in die process and death in Intensive Care Unit, the coping mechanisms developed and important suggestions for professional preparation and relevant aspects in care. Conclusion: the ICU has influence in experience of nursing in front of death, is common professionals to experience suffering and other feelings and develops defense mechanisms to offset the emotional unpreparedness.
