The article focuses on progress made toward polio eradication in India during the period from January 2010 to September 2011. Throughout India, the most recent confirmed wild poliovirus (WPV) type 3 case occurred on October 22, 2010. During January to September 2011, only one WPV case was reported in India, in West Bengal, compared with 40 WPV cases from 17 districts in seven states during the same period during 2010.
