ABSTRACT
The nun is the 14th letter of Arabic alphabet. It is a fact that there are some letters which have different meaning as in Arabic tradition. Also the letter nun is from Abbreviated Letters, Muqatta'at in The Holly Qur'an. The particular letters are found prefixed to surahs. This particular abbreviated letter nun occurs only at the beginning of surah 68 as single letter. Islamic scholars agree that Abbreviated Letters have different means in The Holly Qur'an. The letter nun has a lot of meanings in different traditions but in the Islamic tradition mostly is considered principally as representing El-Hut, the whale. Some other commentators of The Holly Qur'an have given to the letter nun different meanings. Much has been written about the meaning of these letters, but most of it is pure conjecture. Some commentators are content to recognize them as some mystic symbols of which it is unprofitable to discuss the meaning by more verbal logic. This article gathers different interpretations about the letter nun in the tradition and says tahat these interpretations haven'nt relied on strong religious foundations but these are subjective comments.
