ABSTRACT
The article discusses the results of the plan of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to reduce tobacco use by reducing youth exposure to onscreen smoking. The National Cancer Institute indicated a causal relationship between exposure to depictions of smoking in movies and youth smoking initiation. Statistics from 2005 to 2010 from the Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! project are presented along with comparative differences in onscreen tobacco incidents by major motion picture companies.
