ABSTRACT
The Author examines the documents promulgated by the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in the past several years pertaining to the formation of its members in the various stages of this process. The A. highlights the fundamental principles, the points of emphasis, and also some of the deficiencies in the formation program that he hopes the Order will address in the next few years as it responds to its members' needs. In particular, the A. hopes for a clearer articulation of what it means specifically to be a Franciscan and the incorporation of these elements into the friars' vocational journey in the ecclesial and social context of today's world and in the different cultural settings where this branch of the Franciscan family is establishing itself for the first time.
