ABSTRACT
The article presents the findings of a randomized controlled trial conducted on examining the effectiveness of proactive telephone counselling for smoking cessation in parents. It highlights the direct advantages of smoking cessation for the smoker, parents who quit smoking, and children's risk of smoking initiation. It evaluates smoking-related cognitions including attitudes towards smoking, social norms, and self-efficacy in 9-12 year old children of smoking parents.
