The article focuses on some long-standing issues that corporate boards need to consider if they are to adopt policies that are positive contributors to the environment. The author emphasizes the need to change the nature of corporate responses to environmental challenges. He offers suggestions on strategic and beneficial contributions that management services professionals can make to support corporate boards. He asserts that corporate responses should be appropriate and proportionate. In conclusion, he asserts that smart boards see environmental challenges as opportunities to develop new offerings to help customers and prospects to adjust and adapt.
