ABSTRACT
In this article, the author discusses her experiences recreating everyday habits and tasks of pre-modern life. During this process she wrote a book and worked on a television series about the experiment, both entitled "If Walls Could Talk: An Intimate History of the Home". Details related to bathing, cooking, dressing, and washing clothes in pre-modern times are presented. Other topics include personal hygiene and historians' attitudes towards historical re-enactors.
