ABSTRACT
The article presents a research which examines the effectiveness of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in attenuating posttraumatic distress among Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) members who are deployed during the acute disaster phase following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. It is reported that, omega-3 fatty acids intended to stimulate hippocampal neurogenesis can reduce posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in critically injured patients.
