ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the formation of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and acetone through fermentation. It states that transient formation of acetone and/or MEK usually happens when high-organic carbon levels and alkanes exist. It states that based on a study, highly effective dechlorination reactions resulted the formation of MEK, which was also assumed to be linked with the enhanced activities of Clostridium species or other ketone producing fermenters that also dechlorinate ethenes.
