ABSTRACT
The author discusses the role of gender expectations in food featured in video games and food advertisements. Katherine Parkin wrote the tradition of advertising food to women in her book "Food Is Love: Advertising and Gender Roles in Modern America." The video game franchises Diner Dash and Cooking Mama use culinary themes which develop a tension between food, love, and domesticity. The author questions the inevitability of stereotypes within interactive and real cooking exercises.
