ABSTRACT
Measurements of the structural and thermophysical properties of bulk metallic glass forming alloys in the series (Ti[sub 100-x]Zr[sub x])[sub 45](Ni[sub 14.5]Cu[sub 85.5])[sub 55] (at. %) are presented for 25≤x≤75. The bulk glass forming ability was found to terminate abruptly for x>50 due to the nucleation of NiTiZr and Zr[sub 2]Cu symmetry phases with increasing x. Calorimetric measurements reveal that crystallization is facilitated by a decomposition process in the under-cooled liquid. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.
