Prenatal testosterone-induced fetal growth restriction is associated with down-regulation of rat placental amino acid transport

The article reports on a study according to which during pathological pregnancies, an increase in maternal testosterone resulted in reduction in maternal weight gain, which resulted in significantly smaller than normal fetuses. It states increase in maternal testosterone doesn't elevate fetal testosterone, though it causes a decrease in fetal size. The study reveals the specific downregulation of amino acid transporters within the placenta is associated with a decrease in fetal growth.
