ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study by Monia Raffa and colleagues conducted to determine and compare various glutathione levels including total glutathione (GSHt) and reduced glutathione (GSHr), and antioxidant enzyme activities including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in schizophrenics and healthy control subjects. The results of this case-controlled study indicate lower GSHt and GSHr in patients than in controls, whereas, GSSG was significantly higher in patients.
