ABSTRACT
The article discusses the diagnosis of atrial septal defects (ASDs) and patent foramen ovales (PFOs) using echocardiography and the benefit of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis. It says that the defects can be imaged by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) for the first diagnosis and confirmed by transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). It notes that CT is a suitable alternative in patients with limited ultrasound option due to its high spatial resolution and rapid acquisition.
