Routine probiotics in preterm infants?

The article discusses probiotic products for infants, the Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidusbacterium infantis (Infloran), which reduce necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) and mortality in preterm infants. It states that the probiotic used in infants with diarrhoea is licensed by SwissMedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products of the Federal Office of Public Health in Switzerland. It says that in New Zealand, the said probiotic is considered as preventive agent of NEC among preterm infants.
