The author looks at the unfavorable qualities of leadership development (LD) programs. Such programs are perceived by some as unfair due to their selectivity, according to Sandi Edwards of AMA Enterprise. The findings of a survey which ranks employee engagement as the top human resource (HR) challenge and the implications of which on LD programs are tackled. The author recommends the book "Outwitting the Devil," by Napoleon Hill to address the focus on materialism by some LD programs.
