ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the transition from stereo production to 5.1 upmix processors in television broadcasting. It mentions that upmix processors create downmix-compatible 5.1 surround from two channel stereo, which could be reached without adding gratuitous processing to the original audio. It expects that broadcaster will upgrade their audio formats so that the high-definition (HD) and three-dimensional contents will be paired by audio captured and mixed in surround from the outset.
