ABSTRACT
The article offers information about the national pipeline safety initiative to repair and replace old pipelines launched by the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama. It states that the action plan seeks to address immediate concerns including an assurance that pipeline operators know the age and condition of their systems. It is noted that the legislation will increase the civil penalties, from 100,000 per day to 250,000 dollar, for pipeline violations.
