ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study which noted the efficacy and safety of apixaban for stroke prevention in older adults with atrial fibrillation (AF) for whom vitamin K antagonist (VKA) therapy is unsuitable. The study was conducted by researcher S.J. Connolly and his colleagues, and was published in a 2011 issue of the "New England Journal of Medicine." The study concluded that apixaban reduced stroke and systemic embolism in older adults with atrial fibrillation.
