The article presents a critique of Australia's marine protected areas (MPA) as of July 2011. It states that implementation of the MPA was approved without parliamentary scrutiny, is run by a lone minister who has vast discretionary powers, and addresses what it considers to be a non-existent environmental problem. It reports that MPA is run by a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Switzerland that recognizes no local authority to the detriment of Australian fishermen and consumers. It urges an end to this organization in the country, therefore.
