ABSTRACT
The article focuses on an increase in the price of food across the world in 2011. It states agricultural commodity costs have spiked in 2010 and 2011 which have contributed to political unrest in the Middle East. It presents a chart map of the world showing the percentage of total household consumption expenditures that go to food, with the United States and Europe paying under 10 percent, China and India paying over 30 percent, and nations in parts of Africa and the Middle East over 36 percent.
