ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the professional history of Mary Kay Ash who was a leader in sales and sales management and set a firm example of success by being a woman in man's world. She succeeded in her career by working with Stanley Home Products and World Gift. Her ideas became Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc., the Dallas based manufacturer of premium cosmetics, skin-care products, fragrances and toiletries. While the quality of Mary Kay's products are widely known, and her personal attributes widely respected and recognized, her contributions to the growing acceptance of direct-to-home selling as a viable buying alternative lies at the heart of her company's success. She believed that sales positions should be earned, not sold as was the common practice. If everyone starts at the bottom, everyone will have an equal opportunity to succeed. Her unique people-oriented corporate culture thrives in today's increasingly impersonal society. Her experiences and innovations, proved and reproved daily, provide a lesson for everyone in the direct-selling industry.
