ABSTRACT
Describes a spatially and temporally resolved diagnostic that is being developed at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., to measure small B fields by detecting Zeeman shifts much smaller than the transition linewidth. Theory; Use of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy to achieve high sensitivity; Error sources in the LIF-Babcock method that must be guarded against.
